We met them over beignets way back when we were in the city, and they invited us to share our experience in New Orleans on their city-guide blog. I caught up with alexandluke in New Orleans and travelled with them in their VW Rabbit (affectionately named Burt Reynolds) for 8 days; ending my journey in Oklahoma City.
It’s a bit of a challenge to try and capture the essence of the experience in a short guest blog so I decided to present the things I learned on this adventure. For those of you who don’t know, I have the distinct privilege of being Luke’s Mom…now that’s a different adventure…I digress…back to the alexandluke story!
Here’s what I learned:
Luke’s Mom, (@joannietime on Twitter) is our favourite follower this week. Joan flew into New Orleans, Louisiana and travelled with us from there, through Texas, all the way to Oklahoma City, OK! The route looked like this:
Joan took us out to eat at the type of restaurants that we don’t normally have the budget to eat at, put us up in hotels we don’t normally have the budget to stay at, and didn’t complain once during our many marathon driving sessions. But, the main reason Joan is our favourite follower this week is her enthusiasm for the project. Whenever we left Joan alone, even if it was for under a minute, she would end up engaging someone and talking to them about alexandluke.com! In fact, I imagine a lot of you reading this may be doing so because you sat beside Joan in the plane, sat next to her at a Starbucks, or checked her into her hotel. Not only does Joan tell everyone about alexandluke.com, she arguably does a better job at getting people excited about alexandluke.com than us!

This Friday it brings us great pleasure to announce our sweetest Favourite Follower yet! Her name is Lindsay and she is a self-proclaimed “maker, taster, and lover of all things icecream in search of the perfect scoop”. She is the founder of scoopadventures.com (bookmark it immediately – you won’t regret it), which documents this epic ice cream quest, and she is the lovely face behind the twitter handle @scoopadventurer – which is how we know her.
We met online (rather unofficially) a few weeks back. We started getting some great recommendations from @scoopadventurer and her husband @keithclendaniel about restaurants to try out in various cities we have been through, though we didn’t know they were a pair until we met officially this week when they invited us into their home in New Orleans!
Being hosted by people we have met along this journey will never grow old for us – we cannot get over how generous people are with their offers of hospitality. And Lindsay and Keith really went above and beyond for us when we came to town. First of all, their home is absolutely beautiful. It is a historic shotgun style home in the Irish Channel neighbourhood of New Orleans, and we had such a restful sleep there. But on top of that they took us to their favourite local ice cream shop, Creole Creamery, AND met up with us at W.I.N.O for a wine tasting last evening. What amazing people – we cannot say enough how much we enjoyed meeting them.
I am going to wrap up this post now because I have a lot of ice cream crusades to catch up on at www.scoopadventures.com – the photos of the ice cream she makes (which Lindsay takes herself) are enough to keep me glued to the site!
