Nominate us for a Shorty Award

Posted on January 26th, 2011 in vote by alex

The Shorty Awards are like the Oscars for social media and Twitter. Awards are given out to internet people like us based on creativity in their respective area! As you know, we’re not the most popular blog on the internet, but what’s great about The Shorty Awards is that all we need is 100 or so nominations in order to be seen by the judges. We (Alex, Luke, and All of You) did something really cool this year using social media to guide us through every State, Province, and Territory in North America! And, there is a category of awards that was tailor-made for us!

The Best Travel on Twitter

It’s so easy to nominate us, and if you could take 1 minute out of your day to do so, we would really appreciate it! Just click the giant box below and 2 clicks later you will have nominated us!

We had an amazing number of name submissions for Burt’s interim replacement… and, because we have such a great prize to award we didn’t feel it fair to exclude any that may not be our personal favourites! This car will be driving us from Dixville Notch, New Hampshire to all of the spectacular sights in the area. So, read the long list of entries below, and choose wisely!

*In the event of duplicate name submissions – The Syrup will be awarded to the first person who submitted the entry.

It’s also worth noting that this maple syrup, may just be the best maple syrup in the entire world. We’ve only been here 1 day and have already consumed an amazing amount of it.

The Vote Closes on Wednesday January 5th at 2:00pm EST!

Good Luck

Saskatchewan Directional Vote!

Posted on October 23rd, 2010 in Road Trip,Saskatchewan, vote by alex and luke

You gave us many great destinations in Saskatchewan to add to this directional vote, so we took ten and created the poll below. Now its time to figure out which ones we will be exploring! The top three destinations that are voted for will be visited, and we will figure out a logical route once they are determined!

For many of you, some or all of these places are complete unknowns. If you would like to know more about the towns and cities below, click on their names and you will be directed to a site that offers more information so that you can make an informed decision… or just pick the one with the best name! How you vote is up to you… now vote away!

Regina (the capital city of Saskatchewan), Moose Jaw (contains a very large, if not the largest, moose statue), Langbank (a hamlet with a population of 30), Gravelbourg (“a touch of Europe on the prairies”), Melfort (“City of Northern Lights”), Craik (a progressive town with a sustainable living project underway), Rouleau (AKA Dog River, host to the television show Corner Gas), Saskatoon (a lively youthful city said to be a pleasant surprise to visitors), Prince Albert (the “Gateway to Northern Saskatchewan”), Swift Current (a southern town with the least smoke and haze in the whole country)

Let your “tweeps” know you that voted and we will toast to you next time we get our hands on a fizzy beverage.

This poll will close on Monday evening (the 25th of October) at 8 pm EST.

The Saskatchewan Vote… its in your hands!

Posted on October 22nd, 2010 in Road Trip,Saskatchewan,Suggestions, vote by alex

We are starting our long journey east towards Ontario – the province where it all began – but before we get there we have two pretty amazing provinces left to explore.  For those of you who haven’t noticed, Canadian provinces are a lot larger and arranged a lot more linearly than our cousins to the south, so we are not able to hold directional votes quite like we used to.

However, we still want YOUR input to help us navigate our way through these two provinces, and here is what we came up with…

We want YOU to set the options for this next vote.  In the comments below, on twitter or on facebook, tell us which city, town, or village in Saskatchewan you want us to add to the next poll.  We will take the first 10 destinations you suggest and open it up to everyone for the big vote!

What are you waiting for??? Suggest away!

Directional Vote

Posted on October 8th, 2010 in Alberta,Road Trip,Saskatchewan, vote by alex

We’re making our way back to Canada tomorrow after visiting every State in the United States except for Hawaii and Vermont. We’re excited to be heading back to our home country! But, we need your help to figure out what Province we will enter into Canada from.

Saskatchewan

Fans of North Dakota and Saskatchewan should vote for this option. We will drive from Deadwood, South Dakota through the length of North Dakota, passing through the Little Missouri Grassland before ultimately crossing the border and driving to Regina, Saskatchewan! North Dakota lost a vote, and as a result we haven’t seen the State at all! This option would allow us to experience a State we have yet to truly visit.

Alberta

Fans of Montana, and Alberta should vote for this option. We will drive from Deadwood, South Dakota through a small portion of North Dakota before heading west through a large unexplored region of Montana. We would then head North and travel through Lethbridge before ending up in Calgary, Alberta.

Both options are amazing from our perspective, and we don’t have a preference! Which is a great way to conduct a vote.
