Directional Vote

So this brings us to Round One of The Final States Showdown! This round is Iowa vs Minnesota and (pay extra attention here) the loser will merely be driven through, while the winner will have our full, undivided attention for a number of days. I know that sounds harsh, but time is ticking, and we have to keep our pace up on the home stretch of the last six states so that we can get ourselves back to Canada before we are in danger of getting in trouble with customs, AND so that we can find ourselves way up in the Canadian territories and back again before they completely freeze over.

So what will it be? A few days in Iowa, or a few days in Minnesota??? Do you want us to visit the Mall of America (Minnesota), or the birthplace of Ashton Kutcher (Iowa)? As always, its up to you!

This poll will close as soon as we get to Des Moines in Iowa. Depending on the vote, we will stop and find a place to stay, or keep on driving until we reach Minnesota.

This will be happening sometime Wednesday September 29th 2010

It looks like you’re going to be skipping over Iowa, but I think you should extend the drive to Dubuque and see the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. It’s very cool, and then it’s a beautiful drive up to Minnesota along Highway 52.

A stop in Iowa City just to go to the Prairie Lights bookstore is worth it!
Poor Iowa…it is actually quite a lovely place.

Iowa has The Copper Strawberry at 103 West Mission St in Strawberry Point (it’s really highway 3) A VERY small town but…they have a great store and the owner Julie Lux Thompson provided the BEST customer service ever to a Canadian!. Visit the web site
http://www.copperstrawberry.com…they have the best bath products (WaterL’eau Green Deep) and chocolates!
I hope you get to visit Julie!

You should spend some time visiting the Twin Cities, especially the St. Croix River valley and Stillwater near my home, but don’t leave before Thursday night! (I won’t be back in MN until then.)

Also you’ll want to check road conditions if you’re not taking major routes. Several roads in southern MN are closed due to flooding. http://www.511mn.org.
