Should we drive East, West, or North first?

Posted on March 8th, 2010 in vote by alex and luke

The big day is rapidly approaching so we have posted our very first directional vote!  On March 20th we will be departing Toronto in the late afternoon and we don’t even know which way we are turning out of the parking lot yet!

This is where you come in… We are giving you three options (East, West, or North) and each option comes with a general itinerary of things we will plan to see and do.  Read about what will be involved with each direction and then decide which way you think we should go first!

WEST

If we head West, we will be stopping in Guelph on our first night and attempting the old University of Guelph tradition of painting Old Jeremiah, an old British Naval cannon that sits in the heart of the campus.  We will have to stay up all night to do it, and might have to battle it out with other eager students who have their mind set on painting the cannon themselves.

Day Two would take us to London, Ontario where we will experience the city where Alex lived for four years during her undergrad.  We could tour Labatt Brewery, visit Museum London, take in some nightlife on the strip, hang out with UWO students, or maybe even audit a class or two.  What we do in London will be put to a vote.

Day Three would take us to Thedford where we would have the unique opportunity of observing Tundra Swans on one of the stops along their migration route.

And then we would head to Canada’s most southern point, Pelee Island on Day Four and take in the sights.

If you like the sound of this, vote West.

EAST

Our first night would be spent in Kingston, looking for a place to stay.  Our attempts at finding lodgings could involve befriending Queens University students and hoping they have a couch to crash on, or we could spend the night at a haunted hotel, The Rosemount.

On Day Two and Three we will explore our nation’s capital, Ottawa, Ontario.  In Ottawa we will do all of the touristy things people like to do, like visit Parliament, the Rideau Canal and the National Gallery.

Day Four will take us to the Gatineau Hills in the province of Quebec where we will take in some of Canada’s natural splendor.

If you like the sound of this, vote East.

NORTH

The final choice takes us up North, and the itinerary is jam-packed.  We will spend the first night in Collingwood, and the next day will have us on Blue Mountain where Alex will face her childhood fear and ride a chairlift for the first time in her life!  Then Luke will either give her a snowboarding lesson or a skiing lesson (we’ll put that choice in your hands with a vote).

Day Two will take us to Wasaga Beach where (provided we are still invited) we will co-host a radio show with Jeremy Johns at The Beach 97.7!

Day Three we will head up to North Bay where we will stay with Luke’s relatives and babysit one our loyal follower’s kids for the night.  We will introduce them (and you) to the Truppets, traveling puppets who will be going all over North America with us.

And finally on Day Four we will have the unique opportunity to run a General Store in Stonecliffe, Ontario for the day!

If you like the sound of this, vote North.

This poll will close on the afternoon of March 20th, departure day.  Make sure you have your say and vote up there on the top right!

    Alex & Luke,

I don’t Tweet, but I vote for going North first. Hopefully there will still be snow in Collingwood for the chair lift adventure.

You can never go wrong with East, but it doesn’t sound like you’re going my kind of East. So I vote North.

Your trip should take you from the base in Oakville to the tip of the coast… the east coast!
